The athletics program at HISD complements and contributes to the overall educational process. Student athletes learn the invaluable lessons of personal integrity, determination, self-confidence, proper mental attitude, individual and group responsibilities, and the desire to achieve high goals, which should be the objectives of any sound educational system. The program insists on high standards for its members and stresses the value and necessity of discipline, hard work, and dedication toward a team goal to achieve consistent success

Participation Rules

To participate, students must be enrolled in athletics the semester before the sport they wish to play, meet all academic requirements and credits, maintain acceptable behavior in the classroom, and agree to abide by the rules and guidelines outlined in the athletic policy. They must go through off-season the semester before their sport to ensure they are prepared physically and mentally for the task ahead, and to keep the risk of injury to a minimum. Try-outs are conducted for each team sport and are subject to the criteria set by the head coach for that particular sport.
